About Arachidonic Acid Oil
Arachidonic Acid is an essential omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid present in the phospholipids (especially phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, and phosphatidylinositides) of membranes of the body’s cells, and is abundant in the brain, muscles, and liver.

Physical & Chemical Indexes of Arachidonic Acid oil Preparation
Items Index
AA-Arachidonic Acid (C20H32O2), % > 40
Peroxide Value,meq/kg < 5
Acid Value,mg(KOH)/g < 1
As,mg/kg < 0.2
Pb,mg/kg < 0.2
Arachidonic acid can be obtained from food or by desaturation and chain elongation of the plant-rich essential fatty acid: linoleic acid. It mediates inflammation and the functioning of several organs and systems either directly or upon its conversion into eicosanoids. Arachidonic acid in cell membrane phospholipids is the substrate for the synthesis of a range of biologically active compounds (eicosanoids) including prostaglandins, thromboxanes, and leukotrienes. These compounds can act as mediators in their own right and can also act as regulators of other processes, such as platelet aggregation, blood clotting, smooth muscle contraction, leukocyte chemotaxis, inflammatory cytokine production, and immune function.
The filamentous fungus, Mortierella, especially of the species alpina considered a predominant source for preparation of ARA on the industrial scale.
Arachidonic acid four cis double bonds endow it with mobility and flexibility conferring flexibility, fluidity and selective permeability to membranes. ARA control of membrane fluidity influences the function of specific membrane proteins involved in cellular signaling and plays a fundamental role in maintenance of cell and organelle integrity and vascular permeability. These properties might explain ARA critical role in neuron function, brain synaptic plasticity, and long-term potentiation in the hippocampus.
